Small cage, big personality — hamsters are low-maintenance but still have specific needs to stay healthy.
Choose a cage with a solid base (not all-wire) and at least 24 inches of floor space. Deep bedding lets them dig and burrow, which is natural behaviour they need.
A hamster-specific pellet mix covers most nutritional needs. Small amounts of fresh vegetables can be added a few times a week — avoid citrus and onion.
Hamsters are naturally nocturnal and can be startled easily. Let them approach your hand rather than grabbing them, and avoid handling right after they wake up.
